BOOKS AS LIVING OBJECTS
For artists, writers, and visionary projects. We draw out what is distinct in the work and carry it into form through art direction, design, image, material, and production. Publications with weight, texture, and presence.
We have always loved books, not only for what they contain, but for what they are. Objects held between two hands. Paper, image, type and space arranged so an idea can take on form and unfold slowly.
In an increasingly intangible world, the physical book matters to us. Its weight. Its texture. The rhythm of its pages. The tension between image and word. The intimacy of spending time with something made with care, and made to remain.
WE BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF THINGS MADE TO BE HELD.
We design books as worlds to enter.
At Art of Euphoria, we work with artists, writers, makers and independent publishers to give books and publications their physical form.
From art direction, photography and visual language to typography, layout and print production, we can accompany a project through the many layers involved in becoming a book.
Sometimes we begin with a finished manuscript. Sometimes with an existing publication asking to be reimagined. Sometimes with a body of work that does not yet know exactly what form it wants to take.
What interests us is finding the form that belongs to the work.
OUR OFFERINGS IN BOOKS & PUBLICATIONS
ART DIRECTION · EDITORIAL DESIGN · TYPOGRAPHY & LAYOUT
PHOTOGRAPHY · COVER DESIGN
PRINT PREPARATION · PRODUCTION GUIDANCE
Our involvement can begin and end with the design of a publication, or extend into a much fuller creative process — developing its visual language, creating original photography, considering its material qualities, preparing it for print, testing proofs and helping identify an appropriate path into production.
We work across independently published books, artist publications and zines, print-on-demand editions, crowdfunded projects and books created in collaboration with established publishing houses.
SELECTED BOOKS
OUSIA
LINDA PAPPA
INDEPENDENT PUBLICATION · ART DIRECTION · PHOTOGRAPHY · EDITORIAL DESIGN · CROWDFUNDING · PRODUCTION
An independent publication created entirely from the ground up. From art direction and original photography to editorial design, crowdfunding and production, OUSIA became a world extending beyond the book itself into postcards, meditations and accompanying matter.
RITUELS
SÉVERINE PERRON
ART DIRECTION · PHOTOGRAPHY · EDITORIAL DESIGN
Our collaboration on Rituels, published in France by Hébéké / Gallimard, began with photography and grew into the art direction and design of the entire book. Photography, typography, colour and layout were developed as one visual language carrying Séverine's work through the publication.
THE MAGDALENE BOOK OF FIRE
CARLOTTA MASTROJANNI
EDITORIAL DESIGN · ART DIRECTION · PRINT-ON-DEMAND · PRODUCTION GUIDANCE
A complete redesign of an existing independently published book, bringing it into alignment with the visual identity we had previously created for Carlotta. We also researched and tested a new print-on-demand production path, refining paper, format and physical proofs until the object felt right.
IERO
ARTIST PUBLICATION · ART DIRECTION · EDITORIAL DESIGN
An intimate artist publication exploring what can happen within a smaller, simpler format. IERO was conceived as a tactile little object in its own right — proof that a publication doesn't need to be large to hold an entire world.
FROM MANUSCRIPT TO OBJECT
01 — FINDING THE FORM
We begin with the work itself: its character, audience, imagery, rhythm, and the way it wants to be read, encountered and held. Together, we consider what kind of object could carry it.
02 — BUILDING THE WORLD
Art direction, typography, photography, image treatment, colour, materiality and editorial layout come together into a coherent visual language. This is where the book finds its rhythm — not only page by page, but as an experience unfolding from beginning to end.
03 — MAKING IT TANGIBLE
Once the book has found its form, we prepare it for physical production. Depending on the project, we can accompany decisions around format, paper, printing methods, proofs and production partners, helping bridge the space between the designed book and the object that eventually arrives in your hands.
THERE IS MORE THAN ONE WAY TO MAKE A BOOK.
A book does not necessarily need to begin with a publishing house.
Across our own work and the projects we have accompanied, we have navigated traditional publishing, independent editions, crowdfunding, small-run printing and print-on-demand.
Each offers a different relationship to scale, investment, independence and distribution.
When appropriate, we can help explore which production path makes sense for the particular life of your project — while remaining focused on what we do best: giving the work its visual and physical form.
BOOKS WORTH HOLDING.
We are interested in publications that carry something.
A body of knowledge. A practice. A story. Years of research. An artistic world. Something intimate, useful, beautiful, strange or difficult to contain anywhere else.
We love working with people who care deeply about what they are making and want the physical expression of that work to receive the same attention as its contents.
Because a book can be more than a container for information. It can become an object with a life of its own.
DO YOU HAVE A BODY OF WORK THAT WANTS TO BECOME A BOOK?
We would love to hear what you are imagining and explore the form it might take.
